Former president Barack Obama dressed up as Santa Claus and visited the Children’s National hospital in Washington, DC with a sack slung over his shoulder. It contained gifts for the kids and he sang Christmas carols to bring holiday cheer to the lives of these poor children. The doctors, nurses, and other staff members joined him to brighten up the atmosphere. It was a great start to Christmas for these kids who will be spending the festival cooped up in the hospital.

Daily Mail UK reports Barack Obama went around the hospital with his bag and delivered the gifts personally to the children who were overjoyed to meet him.

There were different types of toys in his sack and they ranged from remote-control cars to Hot Wheels sets, apart from nail polish, jigsaw puzzles, etcetera. There was no boundary between the former president and the kids and their families.

Kids are Obama’s weakness

The visit of Barack Obama reveals the inner mind of the man who was in the White House for two terms and left an indelible impression on all those he met from any walk of life. He arrived at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC where the hospital staff and others greeted him and he, wearing a red hat sang, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” to set the mood for the occasion. His interaction with the children was emotional and he danced with one of the girls.

Some of the kids shed tears of joy.

Kurt Newman, chief executive and president of Children’s National Health System, told a section of the media that kids would remember this visit for a long time.

He went on to add that Christmas was that time of the year when no one wants to remain in the hospital. Barack Obama, by his very presence and natural warmth, lifted the spirits of not just the kids, but also of their parents and staff member of the hospital.

Obama's bond with the children

USA Today adds former President Barack Obama stopped by at a children's hospital with a sack full of toys to cheer up the kids who will be there during Christmas.

He went from room to room handing over gifts that he and his staff had collected and seemed to be gradually returning to the public area. Visiting the hospital was a regular feature for him and former first lady Michelle Obama when he was in office. The two of them have always wanted to remain in touch with the younger generation and have undertaken similar visits in the Washington area recently. It included several high schools. Incidentally, Michelle last went to this hospital in 2014 while she was the first lady. She made this trip every year as long as she was in the White House. Her memoir “Becoming” is today a bestseller.
