Much is said about leading a healthy life and protecting the body from diseases, however; most people forget a vital piece that contributes to their optimal development: Mental Health.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Mental Health is the entire state of physical, mental and social well-being. It is not just the absence of diseases such as Alzheimer's, dementia and others.
On boosting optimism
Dealing with the pressures of everyday life is not impossible. People focus much on their job alone. Optimism is not facing the consequences of a terrible situation.
For example, many people may feel depress and cannot recover from the effects of job loss. According to the American Institute of Stress, job pressure is the number one factor in the United States that causes stress.
Dr. Steven Southwick, a psychiatry professor at Yale Medical School, said that being positive helps a lot to recover from difficulties such as stress. He said that optimism is infectious. He advised that hanging out with positive people can help.
Treating yourself well
Cooking a healthy meal like a vegetable salad and putting some olive oil can be a good start. According to a report, olive oil can protect your brain from memory loss. Reading a book, writing a journal or practicing the art of meditation are other suggestions on keeping mental health.
Activities like these help control stress levels. Worrying cannot help at all. Scientists at the University of California (UCLA) shows that meditation can regulate emotions because it encourages certain areas of the brain to grow. These brain regions are the hippocampus, areas of the orbitofrontal cortex, the thalamus, and the inferior temporal gyrus.
These areas play a significant role in the regulation of emotions and therefore contribute to the care of your mental health.
Jack Groppel, co-founder of the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute said that people have to change their view about stress. Instead, think of ways on how they can fight or recover from it.
Maintain a physical well-being
Performing physical activity is part of the list to maintain a healthy mind. Gerontologists and sports physicians at Goethe University Frankfurt examined 60 participants randomly aged between 65 and 85. They concluded that regular exercise has a positive impact on brain metabolism.
Mental health is just as important as physical well-being. Never neglect and be healthy.
