On Saturday, the Free Comic Book Day 2017 officially arrives and brings with it excitement for comic collectors young and old. The annual holiday of sorts is celebrated within many comic shops around the United States and in other parts of the world. It gives the industry a way of promoting various titles to collectors via freebie copies. Some of these copies may even end up worth some money down the road, depending on their scarcity or what's contained inside the meat of the book. Here's a look at what comics will be free today for the Saturday free comic book day events.
Comic book titles available
About 50 different comic book titles will be available on the free comics day. Among them will be some fan favorites including "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Wonder Woman," "Spongebob," and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." There will also be lesser known titles such as "The Incal," "Ballad of Franklin Bonisteel," and "Malika Warrior Queen."
There will be what appears to be a good selection of comics for kids. These include "Barbie," "Colorful Monsters," "Animal Jam," "DC Super Hero Girls Summer," "Monster High," "Underdog," and Disney's "Descendants."

"Captain Canuck," "Wonder Woman," "I Hate Image," "The Tick," "Secret Empire," "Lady Mechanika," "Grimm Fairy Tales," and "X-O Manowar" are several comic titles that could see heavy interest from adult fans.
Of those titles, "Wonder Woman" has a major movie coming out later this year while "Secret Empire" is a major Marvel event featuring Captain America and other popular superheroes from the Marvel Universe.
Popular pop culture titles find their way into comic shops for the comic book day. These include the CW show "Riverdale," "Street Fighter V Wrestling Special," "Dragon Ball Z," "Attack on Titan," "Doctor Who," "Betty & Veronica," "Legend of Zelda," and "Star Trek" titles.

In store or online
A number of shops state-to-state within the U.S. will participate in Free Comic Book Day 2017. Luckily for those who want to find the nearest shop, a great resource exists online.
The comic shop locator at comicshoplocator.com allows individuals to input their zip code and pull up a listing of all of the nearest stores in their area. It's always best to place a call to the shop before making the trip to see if the store will be participating or if they may have changed their hours for the event.
The other good news is that those people who can't make it out to the "real world" stores can still try to pick up some of the titles online. A variety of comic book sellers online will participate in this event. They may include Midtown Comics, Things From Another World, and Graham Crackers.
