Located in the heart of Europe, Maramures is a land of wooden churches, legendary treasures, breathtaking landscapes and ancient traditions. It is located in the extreme NE of the country, being an isolated area from the Carpathian Mountains. This area of 6304 km has a beauty almost unreal. Although since the late XIV century Maramures is considered a part of Transylvania, italways had a distinct character because it is hidden by mountains and forests of oak and fir. - The Merry Cemetery - Is a cemetery in the village of Sapanta.It is famous for its colorful tombstones with näivepaintings describing, in an original and poetic manner, the persons who are buried there as well as scenes from their lives.The Merry Cemetery became an open-air museum and a national tourist attraction.
- Sapanta-Peri Monastery -Having 78 meters, it is the highest wood monastery in the world.
- Horses' Waterfall -Being in Borsa city, it is visited every year by tourists due to its beauty.
- Iezer Lake - Is lacetedin Rodnei Mountains and it is the only lake that has the shape of Romania.
- Steam locomotive (Mocanita in Romanian) -It travels in the mountain area of Viseu.
