"Mortal Kombat 11" just got a brand-new trailer dropped by NetherRealm Studios. The new trailer provides more details about the game's narrative as well as revealing that several characters from previous installments will return.

The less than three-minute video showcases a slew of playable characters, including Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, and Erron Black. On top of that, the video also flaunts more characters, which have yet to be named, which are appearing in the highly anticipated fighting game.

For those who may not know, "Mortal Kombat 11" is the 11th main installment in the infamous fighting franchise.

Developed by NetherRealm and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it serves as a sequel to "Mortal Kombat X."

According to the developer, the next entry takes place after the end of its predecessor, where Cassie Cage defeat's Shinnok. A corrupted Raiden plots to protect Earthrealm by eliminating all its threats, however, a mysterious woman named Kronika, is on a mission to provide order to the universe by any means necessary. She is hellbent on taking out Raiden for tampering with past events which kickstarted the events of the 2011 reboot.

2.5 D fighting game - 'Mortal Kombat 11'

Much like its predecessor, "Mortal Kombat 11" is a 2.5D fighting game. Although the title will see the return of series staples most notably Fatalities and Brutalities, the next installment will also introduce two new gameplay features - Fatal Blow and Krushing Blow.

Fatal Blows will serve as a character's special move, which will deal a significant amount of damage to opponents. However, Fatal Blows can only be triggered once a player's health is below 30 percent. Additionally, the introduction of Fatal Blows will replace the X-Ray super move and can only be performed once per match.

Currently, the title is confirmed to have 25 playable characters when the game officially launches (with more coming as post-launch content).

Aside from series veterans such as Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, and Sub-Zero, the next entry will also introduce brand new characters to the series. These include Geras, who not only has the power to control the flow of time but also has a slew of sand-based attacks up his sleeve.

Ronda Rousey voices Sonya Blade

In other news, earlier this year, professional wrestler Ronda Rousey confirmed she would be returning to voice Sonya Blade.

Meanwhile, rumors floated around suggesting that Blind Squirrel Games is currently working on remastering the first three "Mortal Kombat" titles for the Nintendo Switch.

You can check out the latest trailer below. "Mortal Kombat 11" is slated to launch Worldwide on April 23 for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One. However, it was reported in late January that European Switch owners would have to wait until May 10 to receive the title.
