With E3 just over a month away, we might think that developers would save their heavy-hitting titles for later. However, May 2018 holds some solid releases that can appeal to a variety of consumers. While summer has a few releases scheduled that could keep our attention until the holiday season, it looks like May is the last month for a large number of game releases.
Here are the top 5 titles we should keep an eye on in May
1. "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" - Coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 4, this game transitions beautifully from its original development on the Wii U.
The Switch's ability to run the game in 1080p and 60 fps allows the graphics to pop and the details to come through with more clarity. While there is not a lot of difference in the actual gameplay, "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" strong level design and charming characters warrant a replay. This gives us a lot to look forward to with other upcoming Wii U ports and Switch titles.
2. "Detroit: Become Human" - This highly anticipated PS4 title hits the shelves May 25. It has been quite some time since we have seen anything from legendary studio, Quantic Dream and PS4 consumers got a taste of their newest title when the game's demo dropped on April 24. We are hoping that this story brings us the emotion and entertainment that one of the company's previous titles, "Heavy Rain", did in 2010.
In this new, interactive story we play as three different androids and their struggles of day to day life. Aside from the amazing story we expect, this game delivers the stunning graphics that put most of the PS4 library to shame.
3. "State of Decay 2" - This zombie survival game is coming to Xbox One and PC on May 18. Running on Unreal Engine 4, this sequel boats better graphics and a smoother play through.
This game gives more than fighting zombies you come across, the focus is more on the survivors and how you handle the events of a zombie outbreak and the people who remain. While this style may not be for everyone, the $29.99 price point makes it a title worth putting some time into.
4. "Dragon's Crown Pro" - This original PS3 title is a must-have for those who enjoy side-scrolling beat-em-up games.
"Dragon's Crown Pro" comes from legendary developers, Atlus and Vanillaware, and hits shelves on May 15 for PS4. The artwork is one of this game's most charming features, for the characters and places are all hand painted. Another point that sets this game apart is that you can play up to four players on one console. For those who enjoy a fun but challenging, side-scrolling adventure need to pick this up!
5. "Dark Souls Remastered" - This title that showcases a high replay value and incredibly difficult enemies comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 25, but has been delayed for the Switch. This remaster of the original 2011 game will take players on an epic adventure into a cursed fantasy world.
Players will experience the ability to craft several different combinations of armor and weapons to try to beat the ridiculously hard enemies that they will face. In addition to the smoother gameplay and sharper details, players will also receive the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. Players would be wise to pick up some protective gear for their Switches if they plan on playing this one on the go!
