"The Last of Us" series follows the protagonists Ellie and Joel as they attempt to survive in a post-apocalyptic world filled with infected creatures. As the story progresses, the player learns that the infection is due to a fungal growth called Cordyceps. As they're continually hunted by these relentless creatures, they encounter few survivors and suffer countless setbacks. The game ends with a cliffhanger that has left gamers perplexed since its release in 2013. The story is a tale of triumph, compassion, hatred, and sacrifice, as Ellie and Joel’s friendship is both strained and encouraged.
What the first trailer revealed
The first trailer for "The Last of Us 2" reveals what appears to be Ellie in a state of shock as she attempts to play the guitar with a trembling hand. As her face is slowly revealed, the camera reveals the house she is sitting in is filled with dead bodies. As Ellie laments on how she will “strike down her enemies when they come,” she is approached by Joel in the doorway. He calmly asks her “Are you really going to go through with this?” Her response of "I'm going to find and I'm going to kill every last one of them" sets up the possible plot for the next game as the camera fades to black.
The emphasis on emotion through facial reactions and music is clearly utilized throughout the trailer.
Once Ellie's face was revealed, many gamers rejoiced at the PSX convention this past year. Avid gamer Tommy Perez called the announcement "the most exciting moment of the entire convention. I felt like there wasn't a single person who wasn't on their feet screaming at seeing Ellie's face! I feel like this game is one of those rare gems that make you really care about the main characters.
I can't wait for this game to come out and I'm pretty sure everyone who was in that building with me feels the same way."
What gamers hope to see in the newest installment
Since the initial announcement of the newest installment in the series, many gamers have set their hopes high about what the sequel cover. One question getting asked is about the current status of Ellie and Joel.
Ellie conveyed immense anger and sorrow as she was singing what seemed to be a song of revenge. What is the current status of the rebel group the Fireflies? This question is due to their logo being seen multiple times throughout the first trailer. Hopefully, eager gamers will get the answers to these questions and much more when the game’s release date is eventually announced.
