If latest reports are to be believed, a new “Pokémon GO” wallpaper art has confirmed that Gen 3 will be released during the highly-anticipated Halloween event. Dataminers have reportedly dug deep into the most-recent patch, and have found evidence of a number of Gen 3 Pokémon that are going to be a part of a “Lavender Town” themed event.
Full Gen 3 roster or just the spooky types?
The artwork reportedly features Sableye, Duskull, Bannette, Shuppet, and also Dusclops. As Snuppet evolves into Bannette, and Duskull into Dusclops, it is evident that the two are in the same family.
Fans now want to know whether the full roster will be released during Halloween event or only the spooky Pokémon.
As for now, the new Pokémon are definitely coming in some capacity. More details are expected soon. The “Lavender Town” theme has been appreciated by many. The famous musical score will be a part of the game for the holiday. According to Forbes, it is unlikely that Niantic will go for a full launch.
Gen 3 could be a better batch than Gen 2
Gen 2 release was a separate event altogether. It had no holiday connection. Thus, it is possible that releasing a few spooky ones will be the perfect hype generator. It will then be released in November or December, along with raid boss rotations and other changes.
However, if Niantic feels that releasing the full roster is important to keep the game going, it may well adopt such a strategy.
Releasing a few spooky ones or releasing the entire set, are two very different things. The new Pokémon will be more in number, compared to the previous generation.
It is also expected to be a much better batch “with more well-designed original Pokémon that have fewer standalones and no evolutions of Gen 1 or 2 Pokémon.”
Gen 2 release strategy was not appreciated
A lot of original stuff is coming. It is expected to infuse some fresh life into “Pokémon GO.” Gen 2 had a very soft launch. The babies arrived much before all the Pokémon were released.
The community did not appreciate this. If Niantic wants to stay away from any controversy, it should ideally go for a full launch.
Even though it is very early to comment, datamining the latest “Pokémon GO” update has revealed almost all the Gen 3 critters. Niantic cannot keep fans guessing for long. It’s just a matter of time. A Reddit thread has also laid down the bug fixes, potential new features, and anti-cheat measures coming to the game.
