"Assassin's Creed" is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world right now and, after taking a year off from the series, Ubisoft will be releasing "Assassin's Creed: Origins" later this year. Set at the dawn of the formation of the assassins order, "Origins" is set in ancient Egypt and will allow us to explore tombs, climb up temples, and slide down the side of enormous pyramids. The setting will also see us encounter many real life historical figures such as Cleopatra and Julius Caesar explore actual buildings and locations such as the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Monster and Ubisoft team up

The game's developer, Ubisoft, has teamed up with Monster energy drinks to launch a promotion that will see some lucky Monster drinkers win a number of prizes such as in-game crafting resources, currency, new weapons and items, and even an Xbox One S "Assassin's Creed: Origins" bundle. The prizes on offer are:

  • In-game resources such as animal skins and world resources
  • Drachma (in-game currency)
  • Weapons such as the Dust Biter sword, the Face Breaker long stave, the Scepter of Thaati long scepter, and Rain Bow
  • A copy of the game plus an Xbox One X (only 100 of these are available, only to people in the US)

A grand prize

If you are really, really lucky, then you may also win the grand prize, which is an all-expenses-paid trip for two people to visit Ubisoft's Montreal studio for a tour.

Only six of these are available so it's very exclusive and you'll either need to be very lucky or drink a lot of energy drinks! Unfortunately, like the Xbox One S prize, you must live in the United States in order to win and go on the tour. Still, there are plenty of other prizes for "Assassin's Creed" fans outside the US and you can redeem your code at Monsterenergy.com.

A huge campaign

Ubisoft has described its team up with Monster as its "largest retail promotion partnerships" ever and over 500 million cans of Monster will feature "Assassin's Creed: Origins" promotional branding. They will all feature codes which may net you some extra goodies for when the game comes out. No doubt this promotion will encourage fans of the series to buy Monster Energy drinks while also encouraging sales of the game itself.

Energy drinks are often the beverage of choice for gamers so this promotion will no doubt be effective.

A return to form?

Though previous entries in the series have performed well, the annual release window of each new game has caused some franchise fatigue among fans. Some were starting to think that new games didn't do enough to feel different from past ones. Ubisoft took a year off from the series in 2016, and it looks like the company is hoping to reignite the series with Origins. It's also worth noting that Origins will tell the story of the forming of the assassins order and is a very good time for new players to jump into the series.

High expectations

Ubisoft's decision to take a year off from the series will also make sure that "Origins" is as polished as can be.

The game is now one of the most anticipated "Assassin's Creed" games in years and is arguably one of the most anticipated games of the year. The game was first revealed earlier this year during Microsoft's E3 2017 presentation, and we then got to see a lot more at Ubisoft's presentation. It wasn't too much of a surprise as a number of leaks surrounding the game had occurred before its unveiling. "Assassin's Creed: Origins" is set to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27. It was recently confirmed by Ubisoft that there would not be a Nintendo Switch version.
