"Rainbow Six Siege" is Ubisoft's tactical shooter video game that was released in December 2015. The game earned positive reviews from critics and gamers alike and even received four nominations during the Game Critics Awards 2014. Ubisoft has consistently supported the game through various downloadable content and expansion packs, the latest of which is arriving in September.

Titled "Operation Blood Orchid," it will introduce a new map set in Hong Kong, as well as two Hong Kong operators and one Polish operator. Ahead of the exciting release of "Operation Blood Orchid," however, Ubisoft announced that it will hold a free play weekend for the game beginning Thursday, August 24.

Free weekend beginning August 24

Ubisoft took to the Ubi blog to share that "Rainbow Six Siege" has achieved the 20-million-registered-players milestone. To celebrate, the studio is holding a free weekend that launches this Thursday, August 24, and will conclude on Sunday, August 27.

Players on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC will be able to participate, and as for PC players, they'll have to be members of Steam and Uplay. In addition, there will be a 50% off sale for "Rainbow Six Siege" beginning Thursday, August 24, until September 4. Players who participate in the free weekend can save their progress and carry on when they purchase the game.

'Operation Blood Orchid' test server run coming soon

In other "Rainbow Six Siege" news, Gamespot reported that the "Operation Blood Orchid" has been delayed to September. Originally set for an August 29 release, the expansion will first arrive to PC's Technical Test Server before its official release date sometime in early September.

While the studio is targeting a September 5 release, it has yet to confirm this date. With this new update comes a new map called "Theme Park," which appears to be a dilapidated theme park. The expansion will also introduce three new Operators in the form of Ying and Liu Tze Long from Hong Kong, and Ela from Poland's counter-terrorism unit, GROM.

This August 26, players can check out "Blood Orchid" through a live stream at the "Rainbow Six Siege" Pro League Finals, which will take place at 9:15 a.m. PT / 12:15 p.m. ET on Twitch. Meanwhile, the free weekend for "Rainbow Six Siege" will begin this Thursday, August 24, and will run through Sunday, August 27.
