NetherRealm Studios’ creative director, Ed Boon, has now officially announced the release date for the next downloadable content (DLC) character for their highly popular fighting video game, “Injustice 2.” One of the original characters from the “Mortal Kombat” series, Sub-Zero, has now been confirmed to be coming to game on July 11.

Official announcement

The game’s developer has already announced back in May the three new characters that will be coming to the game, which will be part of the “Fighter Pack 1” DLC. The three characters in the game’s first package include the Red Hood, Sub-Zero, and Starfire.

The Red Hood was already released earlier in the month and is available to purchase for $6.

Ed Boon officially made the announcement on his Twitter account, where he also referenced the upcoming premiere of HBO’s hit television series, “Game of Thrones.” The director captioned the announcement with the show’s catchphrase, “Winter is Coming…in July,” which is of course also referencing the release of the show’s seventh season next month.

First DLC pack

NetherRealm Studios previously announced that there will be a total of nine characters that will be added to the game through different DLC packs. Seeing as that there have already been three characters revealed, two more DLC packs are expected to be released throughout the year, namely “Fighter Pack 2” and “Fighter Pack 3.”

The first DLC pack is priced at $20 as a separate purchase.

The pack also comes with a myriad of in-game bonuses, which include a God Shader pack and an exclusive Premiere skin for Power Girl. Players who had purchased the Deluxe and Ultimate editions of “Injustice 2” will be receiving all three characters for free.

Freezing cold

At the recently held 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event, NetherRealm Studios actually showcased a gameplay video of Sub-Zero for “Injustice 2.” The iconic character, who had appeared in the first “Mortal Kombat” video game in 1992, will be equipped with his signature moves and abilities.

The character, who is interestingly the only fighter who has appeared in every "Mortal Kombat" video game, will be able to fire ice projectiles that instantly freeze enemies as well as forge different weapons from ice.

As of the moment, the studio has not yet officially announced the release date for DC’s Starfire. However, given the release dates for both the Red Hood and Sub-Zero, Starfire may become available for players in early August.
