The Detroit Lions made a potentially big move on Thursday morning when they signed wide receiver Jermaine Kearse. Get to know the new pass catcher now.
He becomes best option for #2 receiver
Jermaine Kearse should be able to slide in right behind Kenny Golladay as the second option for Lions' quarterback Matthew Stafford.
He's got top receiver talent
When he was with the New York Jets, he had to rise to the top receiver spot in 2017. He took that role and ran with it, catching 65 passes for over 800 yards and five touchdowns.
He almost went back to the Seahawks
Just over a week ago, it appears that the Lions weren't going to have any shot at Kearse. All the talk was that the receiver was going to go back to the team he started his NFL career with. Then something changed in the free agent talks and the sides cooled. That left the door open for Detroit.
The Lions tried and failed to get him earlier this spring.
Just a few weeks ago, the Lions made an offer to Kearse that he simply didn't think was good enough. Now he's signed on a one year deal. The big question is going to be whether the Lions upped their offer, or whether his ask went down based on bad market.
Achilles injury could hamper 2019
While Jermaine Kearse is expected to try and slide right into the starting lineup for the Lions, there is a chance his dropoff in 2018 could be the sign of things to come and not an outlier. There is a bit of risk in the addition of the receiver, though there could be massive payoff as well.
