Jon Lester has not worked out all the kinks

Yes, it's only Spring Training. Still, allowing four hits and two home runs in just 3.2 innings of work is far from encouraging to see from the Cubs opening day starter. Lester has an ERA of 6.75 this spring.

Nico Hoerner is a real hitter

The young stud, who could be the next farmhand to watch for Cubs fans, made his big league camp game debut on Thursday. He responded to the chance by going 3-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. It's highly unlikely he's opening the season anywhere but the minors but it's nice to see him make the most of his start.

3

David Dahl is also a real hitter

The Cubs lost 7-5 on Thursday and the Rockies' outfielder had a say in that. Coming off a season where he hit .273 and 16 homers in just 77 games, Dahl is having a good spring and wrecked the Cubs yesterday. He went 3-for-3 with his first homer and two RBI.

Brandon Kintzler continues to be concerning

After coming over to Chicago at the trade deadline last year, Kintzler has not been great. He had a sub par second half of 2018 and he's having an awful spring. After allowing three hits, a walk and three runs in two-thirds of an inning yesterday, his Spring Training ERA is up to 16.75.

Willson Contreras continues to mash

After a terrible 2018, Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras came into 2019 wanting to show it was a fluke. So far, so good as he's had a great spring. On Thursday, he had another double and two more RBI. Contreras is leading the Cubs this spring in RBI with eight.
