Notable players taking part in the AAF

There are some familiar faces for passionate NFL fans that are on AAF rosters.

On February 9, the Alliance of American Football (AAF) began to play for its inaugural season. According to CBS Sports, “it is an eight-team league that exists to complement the NFL in the offseason and showcase local, developing talent."

Hardcore NFL fans will recognize some of the players who are rostered on AAF teams. Below are ten notable players (listed in alphabetical order) who are playing in the AAF this season.

Matt Asiata, RB (Salt Lake Stallions)

Asiata played five seasons with the Vikings, where he totaled 1,259 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He had 570 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in the 2014 season.

Nick Folk, K (Arizona Hotshots)

Folk has kicked in the NFL for parts of 11 seasons and was named to the Pro Bowl in his rookie year of 2007. He has made 80.3 percent of his field goals over that time.

Christian Hackenberg, QB (Memphis Express)

The Jets drafted Hackenberg in the second round in 2016, but he has yet to appear in a NFL game. He was highly-touted while at Penn State, where he threw for 48 touchdown pass in three years.

Damontre Moore, DE (San Diego Fleet)

Moore was a third-round pick by the Giants in 2013. In a NFL career that has spanned six seasons, he has played in 54 games while totaling 10 sacks.

Sterling Moore, CB (Arizona Hotshots)

Moore has appeared in 75 career NFL games over the course of seven seasons. He has intercepted six passes (one returned for a touchdown) and forced six fumbles.

Nick Novak, K (Birmingham Iron)

Novak has spent parts of 10 seasons kicking in the NFL. He has made 82.1 percent of his field goal tries during his career.

Branden Oliver, RB (Salt Lake Stallions)

Undrafted out of Buffalo, Oliver started seven games as a rookie with the Chargers in 2014. That year, he ended up with 582 rushing yards with three scores (also one receiving).

Trent Richardson, RB (Birmingham Iron)

Drafted third overall by the Browns in 2012, Richardson is known as one of the largest busts in recent drafts. He has played just three seasons, totaling 1,469 rushing yards.

Denard Robinson, RB (Atlanta Legends)

Known as "Shoelaces" during his run at quarterback with Michigan, Robinson made the switch to running back once he hit the pros. In four NFL seasons, he has amassed 1,058 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Bishop Sankey, RB (San Diego Fleet)

Sankey was drafted in the second round by the Titans in 2014, and he was fairly productive his rookie year when he rushed for 569 yards. He only appeared the following year in the NFL and has only signed to practice squads since.
