Big Ten Conference power rankings for Week 9

The conference power rankings have shifted after the events of Week 8.

There were some big changes to the power structure in Week 8 of the Big Ten season. Check out who moved up and who moved down.

Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines have won seven in a row since losing their season opener. Thanks to an Ohio State loss, Michigan moves into the top spot.

Ohio State Buckeyes

Interestingly, Ohio State has looked mortal since Urban Meyer returned. Now, they have a loss on their 2018 resume. It wasn't a close loss, either.

Wisconsin Badgers

The Badgers aren't as good as people thought they would be, but they're still the front runner for the Big Ten West.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Who would have thought the Big Ten West was better than the Big Ten East? Iowa moves up, big time, thanks to their only loss being to Wisconsin.

Purdue Boilermakers

Consider this, despite Purdue being just 4-3, they are only eight points away from being 7-0. Even more impressive, is that in their last four games, the smallest margin of victory has been by 14 points over Nebraska. Purdue got off to a slow start, but they are for real, and real contenders for the 2018 Big Ten Championship Game.

Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions have seen themselves fold in the fourth quarter three straight games. Still, they have the talent to be one of the best in the conference.

Michigan State Spartans

One heck of a disappointing season for the Spartans. They managed just 94 yards of offense against hated rival Michigan on October 20.

Northwestern Wildcats

The Wildcats are a weird team. They should have lost to Nebraska, and they barely beat Rutgers. They're also in first place in the Big Ten West, and the only conference team to beat Purdue.

Maryland Terapins

The Terps are better than people thought they were, before the season started. That's good enough for six wins, maybe, in the Big Ten. They got shut out by Iowa on October 20.

Nebraska Cornhuskers

This is actually a pretty big jump, considering the Huskers just got their first win of the season. Nebraska's offense has been playing quite a bit better, and that's the key to Scott Frost and company being better than the rest of the bottom feeders.

Indiana Hoosiers

The Hoosiers once looked like a team that might go bowling. They're now 1-4 in conference play, and just keep losing.

Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois beat Rutgers. That's it for the Fighting Illini. That's why they are where they are ... again.

Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Gophers appear to be rowing the boat in the wrong direction. After starting the season 3-0, they haven't really been competitive in four Big Ten losses.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Rutgers almost got its first win of the season. Against the Big Ten West division leaders. Still, the team is winless in conference, and 1-7 on the season
