AMC has announced that they are planning to produce new Movies and TV Shows based on "The Walking Dead," comics. CNET reported that the network's Chief Executive Officer Josh Sapan held a conference call last week when he said the network was planning a long future for the popular show.

Sapan said, "The Walking Dead" is a universe and they have a plan to evolve it over the next 10 years. Sapan also said that this plan was carefully thought through with respect the world of the fans of that world.

Last January AMC announced that former TWD showrunner Scott Gimple would become the chief content officer for TWD and the prequel "Fear the Walking Dead," and is expected to oversee the development of the upcoming projects, which are part of the 10-year plan.

TWD remains a hit show as it enters season nine

AMC is set to launch "The Walking Dead" ninth season next month, with major story changes and a new showrunner. "The Walking Dead" lead actor Andrew Lincoln confirmed that he is leaving the hit horror series during this season.

TWD has scheduled panels at both the PaleyFest New York and the New York Comic-Con this October. TWD has still been the top drama on all of TV in the key 18-49 demo for the last six seasons. The NYCC panel will feature Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

ScreenRush reports that TWD Season 9, will show a different part of the post-apocalypse world. The new season picks up a year after the showdown between Lincoln's group and Negan's gang.

AMC has met with several major media companies to discuss possible partnerships on some of the projects, which could cost hundred million dollars.

TWD expansion is finally happening

It's not a surprise that AMC would expand on "The Walking Dead." The show has been a massive hit for the series, thanks in part to its ensemble cast.

What is surprising is how long it took for AMC to expand this franchise universe. However, what makes "The Walking Dead," so popular, is also the series' greatest weakness: it can get redundant watching these survivors go from one location to the next. However, Lincoln and Cohan's exit will definitely shake things up. With Lincoln gone, AMC has already confirmed that Norman Reedus will become the lead character.

Currently, AMC's TWD universe includes the main show, the post-episode recap show "The Talking Dead," and its prequel spinoff "Fear The Walking Dead." AMC is willing to develop the series for either a network or streaming service. One of the planned series will be set in another country.
