Zac Efron's dietary habits have led him down many interesting paths, with habits often being adopted to promote or assume a role in an upcoming film (such as the rigorous diet and exercise regimen required to create Zac's "Baywatch" lifeguard body in 12 weeks). But now the somewhat quirky "High School Musical" star appears to be settling on a diet that suits him personally. But Zac's pathway to finding his own personal diet has been a winding one. Aside from pushing himself to the limit for "Baywatch," the Young Star once made a spectacle of eating live creatures on TV, an act not entirely consistent with his new vegan diet.
Zac Efron ate insects
It's hard to imagine handsome Zac Efron devouring insects, but that is precisely what the young star did on "Lopez Tonight" to promote a new film, according to The Daily Mail. Indeed, Zac ate a scorpion on toast and a martini glass full of worms. The Daily Mail reports that Zac Efron enjoys weird food challenges from friends and once ate live larvae as part of a Mexican meal. Zac said, "If there's something strange and everyone is afraid to eat it, I'm usually the one to go for it."
Beyond insects, Zac took on a new challenge
According to Men's Journal, the making of Zac Efron's "Baywatch" body took lots of hard work and a complete nutritional change. No more scorpions on toast for Zac.
Expert trainer to the stars Patrick Murphy put Zac on a strict nutrition plan. Zac stayed away from flour products and refined, processed foods, focusing instead on whole foods. Patrick allowed Zac one "cheat meal" a week, but mostly Zac stuck with the dietary program. Combining strict nutrition with intense workouts led Zac to get ripped for his "Baywatch" role in three months.
But this experience was not the end of Zac's odyssey to delve into new diets. He was about to try something new, a vegan diet.
Zac Efron revealed to Teen Vogue that he is currently on a strict vegan diet: “I’ve been experimenting with eating purely vegan,” the young star explained. “That’s completely changed the way that my body works, and the way that I metabolize food, the way it turns into energy, the way that I sleep.
It’s been brilliant. It’s been great for my exercise, and great for my routine." But one wonders if Zac's experimentation with a vegan diet has anything to do with his upcoming role as notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. According to the blog murdermiletours.com, Bundy converted to Hinduism in prison and became a vegetarian. Maybe Zac is exploring the strange tendency of some mass murderers to avoid eating meat. Or perhaps he is just tired of being challenged to eat scorpions on toast.
