The world often seems like a tough place, and now more than ever, it seems that we are experiencing constant human struggle. Stories of natural disasters, wealth inequality and a global refugee crisis are frequent headlines in the news, giving the rest of us little hope for humanity. What we do not see are the stories of people committing incredible acts of kindness for others and the planet everyday. Alex Haditaghi is one of those people.
Life as a refugee
Haditaghi, 39, went to Canada in 1988 as an Iranian refugee with his mother and siblings, following the death of his father.
Arriving in a foreign country with young children and little to no money to spare, Haditaghi’s mother did the best she could to provide for her family during a difficult time. This meant visiting a local food pantry in Toronto for basic necessities.
“I remember two times a week my family would receive a basket of groceries from a unique Christian organization called Scott’s Mission,” Haditaghi recalls. “When I was about 12 or 13, we were waiting in line and I saw a lady in a fancy car donating food. I thought to myself, I would love to be in that position one day,” he tells Blasting News.
Now, a successful businessman and entrepreneur, Haditaghi has made his adolescent vision a reality. He now donates monthly to the same organization that helped him and his family in a time of need.
“I have done well in my business and wanted to give back when the opportunity came,” Haditaghi stated. “I knew there would be a kid waiting on that line like I had. I hope that when they see me there, they strive for more in life and pay it forward when the time comes.”
Animal advocacy
Haditaghi’s philanthropic initiatives go beyond poverty alleviation.
He is currently working on building an animal sanctuary that will care for endangered species such as African lions and Bengal tigers.
“I always loved nature as a child, and when I first held a baby tiger at a zoo a few years ago, I knew I needed to do something to help.” Alex exclaims.
Haditaghi is now partnering with Celebrities like Justin Bieber to garnish support for his animal sanctuary and spread awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species.
“I think that this sanctuary will give people the opportunity to understand and gain a greater respect for these animals,” Haditaghi added.
From humble beginnings in Iran to an international businessman and CEO of a mortgage company, Alex Haditaghi represents a true rag to riches story. But what really sets him apart from the other stories is his unique outlook on life and generous demeanor; something this world needs a little more of.
“When I die, I want people to remember my legacy, and I want that legacy to be a good one,” Haditaghi explains, “This is why I try to give back as much as possible, to both people and the planet."
