Everyone’s favorite operational psychologist is back in action. “NCIS: LA” will kick off the new year with a visit from none other than Peter Cambor’s Nate Getz. Unseen since last season’s “Head of the Snake,” the shrink will drop by the lair of the West Coast Avengers during the series’ Jan. 8 midseason premiere, “Kuldina.”

Why will Nate return to ‘NCIS: LA’?

A series regular back in season 1, Nate drops by the OSP at least once a year. From doling out advice to resurfacing from dangerous undercover missions, the shrink never seems to pop up for the same reason.

With Kensi (Daniela Ruah) prepping for a return to the bullpen, however, the truth behind Cambor’s return seems open and shut.

There is also a chance Nate could be on hand to lend a little perspective to the mole investigation. Time is running out for Hetty (Linda Hunt), and the midseason premiere might prompt an all-hands-on-deck mentality. Considering episode 12’s plot will be dominated by Sam’s (LL Cool J) undercover adventure, it seems as if the doc’s own off-screen escapades will be relegated to a sentence or two.

“After a Navy reservist is killed while protecting a city councilman, Sam is sent undercover in a private security firm with links to several criminal organizations,” CBS teased.

“Also, Callen and Anna (Bar Paly) discuss the next steps in their relationship.”

What’s next on “NCIS: LA”?

Even if the mole doesn’t receive any airtime during “Kuldina,” viewers can expect writers to double down on the mystery during “Hot Water.” Set to air on Jan. 15, episode 13 will throw Callen (Chris O’Donnel), Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), Sam, and Granger (Miguel Ferrer) right into Rae’s crosshairs.

With Under Secretary Duggan breathing down their necks, those agents left in ops will have a hell of a time bailing their teammates out of trouble.

Check out the official episode summary:

“The mole has once again compromised the NCIS team as planted evidence results in the arrests of Callen, Sam, Granger, and Deeks, on the day Under Secretary Duggan (Jackson Hurst) returns for Hetty’s resignation.”
