Game of Thrones season 7 premiere date and episode count have been revealed byHBO in a press release issued Monday, 18 July. HBO confirmed that the next season of Thrones will be shorter. Luckily, we won't have to wait until Fall or Winter 2017 to watch the first episode of the showlike many predicted after Benioff and Weiss' announcement on the UFC Unfiltered podcast.
GOT season 7 premiere date.
GOT showrunners stated at the beginning of July that the next season of GOT would have been delayed "because, you know, the end of this season, winter is here, and that means sunny weather doesn’t serve our purposes anymore".
Therefore, the shift from the normal April GoT kickoff to summertime wasn't unexpected.
As HBO officially reported, GOT season 7 will premiere in Summer 2017 because "the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing". Since it's kinda obvious that HBO will not release the new season in August 2017, we hope to see the first episode of season 7 at the end of June or at the beginning of July 2017.

HBO also stated in Monday's press release that GOT season 7 will feature only 7 episodes instead of 10, confirming what David Benioff and Daniel B. Weiss already told the press in the previous weeks.
According to what the showrunners have already announced, Game of Thrones season 8 will probably feature 6 episodes.
The Winds of Winter release date.
Even if we don't have any official information about The Winds of Winter release date, it's likely that George R.R. Martin's next novel will be available before GOT season 7 premiere.
Although we still have to wait several months at least, the latest, amazing chapters from The Winds of Winterpublished by George Martin on his blog reinforced the idea that TWOW will be one of the best novels in A Song of Ice and Fire book series. We really hope TWOW will be released in the first half of 2017: that would be a great way to deal with Game of Thrones withdrawalwhile waiting for season 7!
