Grumpy Cat, also known as Tardar Sauce to her owner, has graced a million t-shirts and social media posts because of a face that suggests a dour attitude toward just about everything. She has even appeared in a Lifetime movie called “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever” that unfortunately did not do very well in the ratings. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, Grumpy Cat is going to meet an even more famous feline, one Garfield, star of comic strips and the big and small screen. They will team up in a comic book to be published in the summer of 2017.

Of course, the obvious jokes are already being made. How will the cat who hates Mondays but loves lasagna make of a cat who hates everything? Will they hate each other? Likely, at first. Will they become fast friends in the end? It seems possible, though it is hard to see.

Garfield, by the way, has had his own cinematic adventures thanks to the voice talents of the great Bill Murray. Grumpy Cat was voiced by Aubrey Plaza, who has been in a number of comedic films and TV shows. If the comic book is successful, could a movie version be far behind? We should be so lucky.

Grumpy Cat has been a kind of icon for the depressing era we live in. She is amused by nothing and likes nothing. Her favorite word is “no.” One may think that is a depressing way for any being, four legged or two legged, to live.

On the other hand, Grumpy Cat will never be disappointed. If she expects everyone and everything to be terrible and unacceptable, she will constantly get her wish.

Garfield at least has some things that he enjoys, such as baked Italian food and sleeping in at all hours. Anything that does not involve these things is irksome.

No word exists about what trouble the two most famous cats on the planet are due to get into. No doubt their antics will be the source of great amusement for the two-legged primates who are blessed to share the same planet with the most arrogant species of house pets imaginable. The summer cannot come fast enough.
