Samsung is known in the smartphone market for the immense variety of handsets it offers. On one hand the company launched its premium flagship -- the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ earlier this year -- while on the other hand the South Korean company will now unveil a Flip Phone. The new Samsung flip phone launch will come at a time when most fans are eagerly waiting for the company to reveal the highly-anticipated Galaxy Note 8.
Samsung already has a few flip phones available for customers in the United States and it seems that the company is currently testing new flip handsets in other markets.
The company may or may not launch flip phones in the United States; however, given the popularity of Samsung devices in the country the company may launch its next flip phone in the United States also. Rumors of the impending flip phone launch arose after pictures of the alleged device were leaked on Chinese telecommunication authority TENAA’s website. The images revealed the complete design of the handset. It also offered some clues regarding the specs of the device as well.
New from Samsung
The new device is listed under the model number SM-G1650 on the website. However, this is not the first flip phone from Samsung in 2017 whose picture was leaked online. Back in May, a flip phone with model number SM-G9298 was also leaked.
Incidentally, both the new leaked device and the older leak look similar and may be released together as part of a series.
However, there are some major differences between them as well. For instance, in the latest leak, the positioning of the Home, Recent, and Back buttons have been placed above the navigation keys. This will make room for the buttons to accessing the camera function and email.
Specs of the flip phone
Not only were the upcoming handset’s pictures leaked but the specs and features of the flip phone have also emerged. The SM-G1650 will boast a 3.8-inch display with a native resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It will be powered by a quad core CPU, along with either 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM. The handset is expected to house 16 GB or 32 GB of internal flash storage.
It is not yet certain if it will support microSD cards for expanding memory.
The device will also come with an 8-megapixel primary camera on the back, along with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The Samsung flip phone will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and will include a 1,950mAh battery. Pricing details were not listed.
