MLB free agent power rankings have been updated. Bryce Harper, who leads the National League with 18 home runs, is No. 1 on the list. MLBTradeRumors.com released the new free agent power rankings on June 7, giving fans a look at players that will be available at the end of the current season. It is a group of star players, all of which are in line to make a lot of money in their next contract.

Best MLB free agents

Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Clayton Kershaw, Patrick Corbin, and A.J. Pollock hold down the top five spots in this updated MLB free agent power rankings.

Other players on the list include Craig Kimbrel, Dallas Keuchel, Josh Donaldson, Brian Dozier, and Elvis Andrus. While some of these players could end up working out contract extensions with their current teams, a number of them are going to be highly-sought-after following the 2018 World Series.

More free agent reports

A new report by MLB.com also takes a look at the "2018-19 'epic' free-agent class." This report points out an important fact about Clayton Kershaw and his current contract. He has a player option for the 2019 MLB season, but his inability to stay healthy might just convince him to not opt-out. David Price and Jason Heyward have similar clauses in their deals, giving them the ability to enter free agency after the 2018 season.

Their on-field performances may keep Price and Heyward under contract with their current teams.

There are a number of other possible free agents that the article from MLB.com mentions. Included among them are Andrew McCutchen, Daniel Murphy, Adam Jones, Marwin Gonzalez, and Ian Kinsler. Jones is a trade candidate, as the Baltimore Orioles may look to get something back for him, rather than just lose him to free agency.

That is a similar situation to Manny Machado, who is in line for a huge pay raise, but might not be getting it from the Orioles. As the team flounders in the American League East, a deal or two starts to appear even more likely.

Trades are coming

A number of the pending free agents could get dealt before the July 31 MLB trade deadline.

If the Arizona Diamondbacks fall out of contention in the National League West, Patrick Corbin and A.J. Pollock could be traded to ensure long-term success for the team. Trade rumors like the New York Mets shopping Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard as well as the Texas Rangers looking to deal Cole Hamels are dominating the headlines right now. That could all change if the Baltimore Orioles suddenly state that Manny Machado is going to the highest bidder.
