USA men's Soccer team suffered a humiliating defeat by under-dogs Trinidad And Tobago last night, leaving them with no chance of qualifying for the FIFA 2018 World Cup to be held in Russia in the summer.

The shocking 2-1 defeat, coupled with the rest of the results from the other qualifying matches bundled the US team out of next year's World Cup. From the onset, the US team looked like they were struggling to get into the rhythm of the game. The midfield and attack coordination was poor and failed to connect throughout the entire match.

This lead to Trinidad and Tobago repeatedly catching the US team too far upfield, enabling them to create the chances to score through fast-paced counterattacks.

Own goal

Trinidad and Tobago's consistent push towards the US goal was rewarded through an own goal courtesy of defender Omar Gonzalez in the 17th minute. In an effort to clear a cross to Tobago's striker Winchester, Gonzalez effort was awkwardly deflected by his shin, sending the ball into his own net.

A few minutes later, the US was lucky to escape a penalty courtesy of the unlucky man of the match Gonzalez once again. But their luck did not last long when late in the first half, Jones found space and unleashed a 30-yard shot that rattled the back of the US net making it 2-0. USA goalkeeper Tim Howard reacted late to the shot which cost his team him dearly.

Moments after the second half, the US managed to get one goal back when Christian Pulisic struck a stunner, leaving Trinidad and Tobago's goalkeeper with no chance at redemption.

Clint Dempsey's attempt to level the score for the US saw his only effort go off the post, and the US did not get any other chances worth mention after that.

Other results

The other qualifying matches that were played also worked against the US, with Honduras beating Mexico 3-2 in the other shocking upset of the night, in a match that was played in San Pedro Sula.

This catapulted Honduras to second place on points in the group while relegating the US to third.

The final blow for the US came when Panama beat Costa Rica 2-1, adding further misery on US team's chances of qualifying for the World Cup final in Russia. The US finished at the bottom of the group after last night's matches.

Trinidad and Tobago got a revenge of sorts for their 1989 encounter with the US which bundled them out the World cup after they were beaten by a lone goal. It was also the first time the US qualified for the prestigious World Cup event.
