TMZ is reporting that NWSL soccer star Alex Morgan, MLS players Giles Barnes and Donny Toia, and Toia's wife Courtney had to be removed by police from the Epcot Center theme park at Disney World. The incident occurred this past Sunday.
What is known of the incident
The group had to be removed due to an argument that broke out among them in the restaurant they were at. An incident report by the Orange County Police Department that was obtained by TMZ said that officers guided a “highly impaired” Alex Morgan and the others involved out of the U.K.
pub in Epcot.
A deputy wrote in the report that he saw a woman later identified as Morgan “yelling, screaming and taken [sic] video and possibly pictures.” As the group was being escorted out, they were all being extremely noisy and aggressive toward the park's workers in front of other guests. Morgan was held heard exclaiming that she “knows the Orlando SWAT Team.”
How the incident started
The incident involving the soccer players started when Barnes cut in front of someone at the restaurant, starting an argument that led to him being taken outside of the pub. According to the report, Donny Toria was being very hostile towards police and staff.
However, this ended after a deputy spun him around by the arm, leading to him finally being cooperative.
All four of them were given trespass warnings after being escorted off of the premises but no charges were filed.
Response by police and the team
TMZ got confirmation from the police department that the soccer players were involved in the incident. The police said, “These are the individuals that were trespassed from Disney on Oct.
1st.”
MLS team Orlando City, who Barnes and Toia play for, issued a statement to the Orlando Sentinel on the situation. The MLS team also runs the NWSL Orlando Pride, the team that Morgan plays for. They basically said that they are aware of the situation that took place with the players.
The team also added that they are waiting for official communication from either Disney or the police department before moving forward so that they know exactly what happened.
Once that takes place they will then look into the matter internally.
Both Orlando City and Orlando Pride last played on Saturday. City does not play again until the 15th since the FIFA international break is currently underway. Meanwhile, the Pride does not play again until the 7th, when they will play their first game of the semifinals in the NWSL playoffs.
