Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a broken left arm in the second quarter of their 33-0 loss to the Los Angeles Rams Sunday at Twickenham Stadium in London. Palmer suffered the injury after he was hit by linebacker Alec Ogletree following a blitz. Before the injury, Palmer completed 10 of 18 passes for 122 yards and an interception. According to head coach Bruce Arians, Palmer will undergo surgery and will be out for eight weeks or for the rest of the season.
The injury could mean an end to Palmer’s era in Arizona. Palmer is entering his fifth season in Arizona and his 15th in the NFL.
Drew Stanton replaced Palmer, completing five of 14 passes for 62 yards and an interception as the Cardinals dropped to 3-4. After rushing for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in their 38-33 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, veteran rusher Adrian Peterson was limited to 21 yards on 11 carries while Jaron Brown led the receiving corps with two catches for 37 yards.
Goff, Gurley lead Rams past Cardinals
Jared Goff completed 22 of 37 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown with an interception and ran twice for 13 yards and a touchdown as the Rams improved to an NFC-west leading 5-2 mark. Todd Gurley carried the ball 22 times for 106 yards a touchdown while Greg Zuerlein added four field goals for Los Angeles.
Zuerlein made three field goals while Gurley and Goff ran for a touchdown each as the Rams took a 23-0 lead at the break. In the third, Zuerlein made it a 26-0 game with a 34-yard field goal while Goff led a 16-play, 80-yard drive that he capped with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp in the fourth quarter for the final rally.
Cutler sustains chest injury
The Miami Dolphins lost their starting quarterback Jay Cutler to a chest injury in the third quarter of their 31-28 win over the New York Jets at Hard Rock Stadium. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Insider, Cutler is anticipated to have suffered a cracked rib. After the game, Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Cutler will undergo MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
Before he was pulled out, Cutler completed 12 of 16 passes for 138 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Matt Moore took over from Cutler, going 13-for-21 for 188 yards and two scores for the Dolphins (4-2). Josh McCown completed 17 of 27 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for the Jets, who dropped to 3-4.
