manchester city hosted Stoke at Etihad Stadium in the eighth round of Barclays Premier League. They have been topping the league table since the end of the fifth round of matches
Man City continued their impressive performance against Stoke. They had a pressure to win the game as their local rivals, Manchester United was trailing them on the second spot with 20 points.
Manchester United played a draw against their arch-rivals, Liverpool, and this gave Man City a boost to win the game against Stoke and increase the points lead over United. Man City hasn’t lost any match in this campaign so far and is aiming to win their third Premier League title since 2012.
Impressive first-half by home team
Manchester City played an attacking football right from the beginning. The City’s winger, Leroy Sane, missed a golden opportunity to score in the early minutes. Moving on from that miss, Man City scored their first goal in the 17th minute when the striker, Gabriel Jesus, scored from a cross by Raheem Sterling.
Raheem Sterling scored a goal himself just two minutes after the first goal. The midfielder, David Silva again scored a goal for Man City in the 27th minutes that gave his team a 3-0 lead. Man City’s defense was performing up to mark but they gave up a goal in the 44th minute before the end of the first-half.
Plans to clobber Stoke in the second-half
Man City came in the second-half to score as many goals as possible.
But again their defense looked scattered in the early minutes as the full-back player, Kyle Walker, scored an own-goal in the 47th minute.
Stoke players came more forward to find an equalizer but their attacking play backfired in the 55th minute when Gabriel Jesus scored his second goal. City’s wunderkind, Gabriel Jesus gave a two-goal lead to his team.
After this goal, everything started to fall apart for Stoke. They conceded three more goals after a 4-2 score. Fernandinho, Leroy Sane, and subbed player Bernardo Silva scored in 60th, 62nd, and 79th minutes for City. Stoke couldn’t do much after that to recover. The game ended with a win for City by a score of 7-2.
