Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista Agut has reached the St. Petersburg Open semi-finals. The top seed demolished No. 7 seed Viktor Troicki 6-1 6-2. in the quarterfinals. Bautista Agut has remained perfect against Troicki. The Spaniard now has a 4-0 head-to-head record against Troicki.
Troicki was threatening Bautista Agut early on in the match. The Serb fell apart after blowing two consecutive break points in the first game of the match. Bautista Agut won the opening five games of the match before he eventually sealed the first set.
Troicki bounced back after losing the first set.
Troicki broke Bautista Agut for the first time in the match to open a 2-0 second set lead. But, that was all from the Serb, as the Spaniard won six games in a row to close out the match in style.
Bautista-Agut converted 5-of-8 of his break point chances against Troicki. On the other side, the Spaniard saved 4-of-5 of Troicki's break point tries. The match came to an end after an hour and 11 minutes of play.
Fognini also through
Italian tennis player Fabio Fognini has also reached the St. Petersburg Open semi-finals. The No. 3 seed had no problems against unseeded Ricardas Berankis. The Italian dominated the world No. 177 6-3 6-0 in the last singles match of the day in St. Petersburg. Fognini now has three wins and zero losses against Berankis.
The Italian's previous two wins came in Umag in 2008 and Moscow last year.
Interestingly, Berankis broke Fognini in the opening game of the match. However, Fognini broke back in the following game, and no breaks of were seen until the seventh game. Both players were tied at 3-3 in the first set when Fognini went on to win three games in a row and seal the opener.
Fognini's run continued in the following set, taking six games in a row to book straight sets win. Fognini closed out the match in a stunning way, as he took the last nine games of the match.
Fognini won 75 percent of his first serve points and converted 5-of-10 of his break point tries on Friday. Fognini won a total of 62 points, while Berankis took the remaining 33 points played.
The match came to an end after just 58 minutes of play.
Bautista Agut to meet Fognini
It's all set for a St. Petersburg semi-final meeting between Bautista Agut and Fognini. The head-to-head record favors Fognini, as he has five wins and two losses against the Spaniard. 2017 Gstaad champion Fognini beat Bautista Agut in the semi-finals stage on his way to winning it all. The top seed will certainly be looking for the loss suffered in Gstaad. Fognini beat the Spaniard in St. Petersburg in 2012.
