Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor has wanted a new contract for two years now. He threatened to hold out two years ago but finally showed up after just missing two games. Kam ended up playing anyway under good faith. With the 2017 NFL training camp underway, it seemed like the Seahawks were not going to pay off his faith but things changed last week. The Seahawks finally paid up and gave Chancellor a three-year extension worth $36 million, with $25 million guaranteed.

Seattle remains strong on defense

The Seattle Seahawks contract extension for Kam Chancellor means that the team has $123 million in guaranteed money going to their secondary alone.

Richard Sherman has $40 million guaranteed and Earl Thomas has $25.7 million guaranteed. With them locked up, the Seahawks are able to keep their legendary “Legion of Boom” defense intact for a little while longer. The entire starting defense is under contract through the 2018 season, outside of the strongside linebacker position.

Kam Chancellor has said that the Seattle Seahawks defense is like a “machine.” Kam said that if one bolt goes missing, that will throw off the entire defense, so keeping them intact for at least two more seasons means that the team will have a chance to continue competing for a Super Bowl appearance. However, it seems changes are being prepared for as the Seahawks took four defensive backs in the 2017 NFL Draft.

With Kam Chancellor signed for three more seasons, he will be able to help teach the young players what the Seattle Seahawks expect from their players and will be able to keep the Seahawks strong even when players like Richard Sherman, Earl Bennett, and Kam himself finally leave the team.

Kam happy to stick with the Seahawks

Kam Chancellor seems happy with the Seattle Seahawks extension, saying that he loves being in Seattle and he considered it the only opportunity he wanted.

Kam said that he would love to eventually retire with the Seahawks at the end of his career. Chancellor said that he wants to play until “the wheels fall off.” In seven seasons, all in Seattle, Chancellor has 12 interceptions and has been to the Pro-Bowl four times.

Richard Sherman said that Kam Chancellor is one of the top players on the defense and makes an impact. Kam is the leader of the Seattle Seahawks defense and this is the seventh straight year that Chancellor, Sherman, and Earl Bennett will line up together.
