The big night had come for both UFC and boxing enthusiasts when Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather faced each other in the boxing ring. The UFC lightweight champion had his boxing debut at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.
McGregor amazed many people for showing professionalism and sportsmanship. He even got LeBron James' respect for reaching the 10th round thinking that he is a first-time boxer. He lost to Mayweather due to a TKO during the 10th round.
60-day rest for Conor McGregor after Technical Knock Out
Following the TKO he got from Mayweather, McGregor needs to rest for two months.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has issued medical suspensions regarding the “The Money Fight”. During the 10th round fight, he received a series of punches from Mayweather.
As for Mayweather, there was no medical suspension issued for his retirement match. The bout is McGregor’s first professional boxing match and his first loss as well, according to MMAJunkie.
Aside from McGregor, five more fighters received medical suspensions. The list includes the following:
- Nathan Cleverly is suspended until Oct. 26 with no contact until Oct.11.
- Thomas Dulorme is suspended until Sept. 26 with no contact until Sept. 17.
- Juan Heraldez needs to have his left hand x-rayed and must be cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he cannot fight until Feb. 23 of next year. There will be the least suspension until Oct. 11 with no contact until Sept. 26.
- Jose Miguel needs an MRI on his left knee in a span of 10 days and must be cleared by an orthopedic doctor or there will be no fight until Feb. 23 of next year. There will also be the least suspension of no match until Sept. 26 with no contact until Sept. 17
- Kevin Newman is suspended until Oct. 11 with no contact until Sept. 26.
Floyd Mayweather's last boxing match
Following his victory, Mayweather asserted on Sunday that the match with McGregor would be his last bout.
He smashed the record of Rocky Marciano who had 49 wins and no loss while his record is now 50 wins and no loss.
“Rocky Marciano is a legend, and I look forward to going into the Hall of Fame one day,” Mayweather said.
