Lionel Messi, 30, and Antonella Roccuzzo, 29, finally said their vows at a luxury hotel packed with over 250 witnesses on Friday. A report from Hollywood Life confirmed that the childhood sweethearts wed after eight years of being together at the City Center Complex in Argentina. Hundreds of policemen were deployed to secure the safety of the couple and their guests.

Wedding of the century

The two first met in their hometown in Rosario, Santa Fe. The professional football player is said to be a close friend of her cousin, Lucas Scaglia. Messi had to leave his native land after getting an offer to play for Barcelona at the age of 13.

The young athlete, however, did not forget to communicate with Roccuzzo through phone calls and handwritten love letters.

Among those who came to witness their wedding ceremony included FC Barcelona's Luis Suárez, Neymar, and Gerard Piqué with his wife "Waka Waka" singer Shakira. Messi's former teammates Xabi Alonso, Cesc Fàbregas and Carles Puyol also attended the event with their partners.

Messi and Roccuzzo's star-studded wedding caught the attention of hundreds of Argentines who even waited at the airport to have a glimpse of some of the popular attendees. About 150 journalists were given access to cover the "wedding of the century."

Celebration of love and friendship

Fans of the childhood couple took to social media to send their congratulatory wishes to the professional footballer and his wife for their union.

Some of them shared Messi and Roccuzzo's old photos and lauded the two for their love story. Others even branded the mother-of-two as the "first lady of football" after marrying the La Pulga Atomica.

For the big day, Roccuzzo wore a mermaid wedding dress designed by Rosa Clara.

The famous bridal designer was also in-charged of dressing the bride's mother and sisters as well as some of the witnesses. Mirror stated the bridal gown was reportedly transported from Spain to Argentina on a private jet plane.

Messi, on the other hand, sported an Armani suit matched with printed neck tie. Alta Moda's Claudio Cosano reportedly dressed the footballer's mother and sisters for the ceremony.

The menu for their wedding reportedly featured an array of Argentine delicacies including empanadas, sweetbreads, blood sausage and a lot more. Aside from these, the venue also had a sushi station. Further reports stated Shakira also performed for the newlyweds after the ceremony.
