The Oakland Raiders have now locked up another key piece of their team only about a week after signing quarterback Derek Carr to a massive contract extension. That piece is their 25-year-old starting right guard Gabe Jackson. Also, the Philadelphia Eagles have released wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham after a failed one-year rental and saw their starting linebacker Jordan Hicks get injured on his honeymoon.
Gabe Jackson's extension
The contract extension that the Oakland Raiders gave to Gabe Jackson is a five-year, $56 million dollar deal, that now keeps him with the team through the 2022 season.
The deal for the 2014 third-round pick out of Mississippi State will also include $26 million in guaranteed money. Jackson spent his first two seasons in the NFL at left guard but switched to right guard after the team signed Pro Bowler Kelechi Osemele last year. He was part of a Raiders team that allowed a league-low 18 sacks in 2016, with Jackson himself not allowing a single one.
Eagles release Dorial Green-Beckham
Last August the Philadelphia Eagles traded guard Dennis Kelly to the Tennessee Titans for wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham in an effort to find a weapon for rookie quarterback Carson Wentz. Now, Green-Beckham has been released as the team moved on from him after the signings of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith.
In a corresponding move, the Eagles signed undrafted rookie quarterback Dave Evans to a three-year contract.
The tall and big-bodied Green-Beckham has physical gifts but was not consistent. He had 36 receptions for 392 yards and 2 touchdowns last year, all second best among receivers on the team. However, that was an Eagles unit that was 31st in yards and 32nd in drop rate last season.
During his rookie year with the Titans, Green-Beckham had 32 receptions for 549 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Jordan Hicks injures himself on honeymoon
Earlier this week Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks got married to Ivana Rodriguez and the couple has been on their honeymoon in Greece. However, Hicks took time out of his busy schedule to make NFL headlines by injuring his hand.
He suffered the injury while getting out of the pool and it is currently not considered to be serious. Hicks did send a video of his hand to team doctors so that they could examine it but has not yet had any x-rays taken. There are no plans in place for the honeymoon to be canceled, as it is still ongoing.
