All of the rumors, all of the hints, and all of the trash talk that has been circulating for months has finally come together to create one of the biggest fights in the History Of Boxing. On August 26th, the Notorious Conor McGregor will fight Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas.
Rumors have circulated for almost a year about a super fight between the two powerhouses of fighting, however, even UFC President Dana White expressed some doubt as to if the two sides would be able to reach a compromise that would enable them to actually step into the reach.
Compromise is exactly what both sides did, however, and the announcement was made final Wednesday that the fight would indeed take place.
One of the biggest fights of the modern era is set to take place this summer
Earlier in the year, UFC’s Dana White announced that Conor McGregor had signed his part of the deal and they were merely waiting on Floyd Mayweather and his team to sign their part to make it happen. McGregor had been eager to fight and pushed the bout for most of 2017, constantly taunting Mayweather and challenging him to finish the deal. Mayweather was more cautious, however, careful to sort out the details before proceeding to sign one of the most lucrative deals in the history of the sport.
Mayweather Promotions will be handling the promotions and marketing for the bout. Showtime will air the Pay-Per-View which promises to be phenomenal. The interest already generated by the fight is extraordinary and the crossing of the disciplines of fighting and MMA is forecasted to pull in a record number of views as well as live attendance.
In addition, while no actual figures have been discussed, rumor has it that each fighter will walk away with a possible nine-figure payday.
Will McGregor give Mayweather his first defeat?
As soon as the fight was confirmed predictions began to fly about the outcome. Floyd Mayweather is a flawless champion with a record of 49-0.
Boxing purists have expressed concern that the fight will overall dilute the quality of boxing and, while being good for boxing short term, will long term be detrimental to the sport. More than that, however, is the fact that Mayweather is undefeated. He has gone up against some of the fastest, most powerful boxers of our time and they haven’t touched him. His head movement, skill, and precision have kept him at the top of the boxing world for quite some time.
Conor McGregor, on the other hand, is a champion in his own right. He was formerly the 145 pound UFC champion and is currently the 155 pound champion. He has skills and a talent all his own, however, the question becomes will those skills and those talents translate from MMA to boxing.
McGregor insists that they will and that he will stun, not only the boxing world, but the entire world with what will happen when he and Mayweather step into the ring August 26th.
When Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather step into the ring this summer, fans will be tuning into of the most historical fights in the history of both boxing and MMA. This is a new kind of super fight that will transcend each individual sport, and perhaps even the fighters themselves, to give fans a spectacle that has never been seen before. As McGregor and Mayweather prepare to step into the ring they are paving a new road for the fighters that come after them and for their respective sports in which they are unrivaled and unequaled champions.
