Liverpool only needs to win their last game of the season to guarantee qualification to the UEFA Champions League after winning 4-0 away to West Ham.
The first 20 minutes of this game was action packed as both teams had great chances to score. Sam Byram had the first chance to score for West Ham but his shot just went wide of the goal. Joel Matip then hit the crossbar for Liverpool with a header from a corner but it was Daniel Sturridge who broke the deadlock as he scored for the reds in the 35th minute after receiving a beautiful pass from Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool were incredibly lucky to be winning at halftime though, as Andre Ayew hit the post twice in the space of 10 seconds just before halftime.
Dominance in the second half
The second half was very one-sided and there was only going to be one winner in this match. Philippe Coutinho scored a brilliant goal in the 57th minute just after Georgino Wijnaldum hit the crossbar with a volley from outside the penalty box. Coutinho made it 3-0 to the reds four minutes later after he showed some more terrific skills inside the penalty box and then smashed the ball into the back of the net. Divock Origi made sure the game was definitely over in the 76th minute as he shot the ball into the goal from a loose ball to give Liverpool a comfortable 4-0 win.
Liverpool always looked threatening when they had the ball and they had the ball quite a lot. The reds had 67% possession in this match and had control of this game. They also managed to have 26 shots at the West Ham goal.
Man of the Match
Philippe Coutinho was easily the best player in this game, he scored twice for Liverpool and set up Daniel Sturridge for his goal.
Coutinho has now scored 12 goals this season and also has seven assists.
Philippe Coutinho has shown his brilliance this season for Liverpool and if the reds qualify for the Champions League next season, I'm sure Coutinho will stay a Liverpool for at least another season.
One more win needed for Liverpool
Liverpool is in control of their Champions League destiny after this win which means if they beat Middlesbrough in their final game then they will guarantee their place in the Champions League next season.
Arsenal put the pressure on Liverpool as they beat Stoke City 4-1 yesterday to go one point behind the reds going into the match against West Ham. Liverpool knew they needed to win today and they made sure they got the job done.
Liverpool play their last game of the season on May 21 at what will be a sold-out Anfield stadium knowing that three points will be enough.
