The plan for a Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman slugfest on Wwe Payback is reportedly underway, with the winner of the match facing reigning WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar in the next PPV event.
The 6-foot-8, 385-pound Strowman has emerged as the newest main event player on Monday Night RAW. According to Pro-Wrestling, WWE chairman Vince McMahon is already pulling all the stops for the former Wyatt Family member to look strong in a soon-to-be-announced match with Reigns in RAW’s first PPV event after Wrestlemania.
Prior to Reigns’ Wrestlemania feud with the Undertaker, Strowman engaged in a number of vicious matches with the ‘Big Dog,’ including an entertaining singles match on WWE Fastlane.
Their rivalry will come to a head three weeks from now on Payback, where the number one contender spot for the Universal title is up for grabs.
Titanic match at hand
Already a force to be reckoned with, Strowman will look even more powerful once he defeated Reigns, who is coming off a victory over the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33. He will then set his sight on the gold currently held by another monster in Brock Lesnar.
WWE has already provided a glimpse of what will surely be a huge championship showdown when Strowman decided to step into the ring with the Beast Incarnate in the post-Wrestlemania Monday Night RAW last April 3. The face-off between two larger-than-life wrestlers was well-received by the fans, who direly need a breath of fresh air after seeing Reigns, Goldberg, Seth Rolins and Kevin Owens taking their turns in the main event.
AJ Styles vs. Reigns
WWE creative will try its best to protect the strong image built for Reigns despite the fact he is projected to lose the no.1 contenders match. With the prospect of Reigns facing Lesnar in next year’s Wrestlemania pretty much in play, AJ Styles is rumored to interfere in the Payback main event match and set up another feud with the Shield member.
Styles, who is expected to join RAW after Monday’s Superstar Shakeup, had a couple of stellar championship match with Reigns at last year’s Payback and Extreme Rules before he was drafted to SmackDown Live. WWE bosses are hoping that a much more personal feud with the Phenomenal One will give Reigns opportunity to showcase his wrestling skills with arguably the best in-ring performer in wrestling today, and eventually win over the crowd. WWE Payback 2017 will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on April 30.
