Maximiliano Urruti and Kellyn Acosta second half goals helped The Texan team to win their MLS season opener against the La Galaxy at the StubHub Centre in Carson, California. All the goals in the encounter came in the second half as Maximiliano Urruti netted the opener in the 47th minute but a questionable Giovani dos Santos penalty kick in the 53rd minute leveled the proceedings. Later, Fc Dallas star man Kellyn Acosta made sure LA Galaxy new coach Curt Onalfo's debut would not be a memorable one after striking home a strong drive in the 69th minute.
Kellyn Acosta: the Texan team midfield maestro
Much has been said about what exact role the versatile FC Dallas midfielder Acosta fits best during his young career. In two weeks, Kellyn Acosta scored a vital goal for The Texan team for the second time with Saturday's winner, and this strike combined with the 'glamorous golazo' from the first leg tie of the CCL 'Tilt' against Panamanian side Arabe Unido are adding to the justification that he is better utilized as a free role midfielder than holding back on a particular position in the midfield.
Galaxy, lacking the punch
LA Galaxy were indeed the better side in terms of ball possession, winning about 66.7% of that battle in the game. Much of it was 'possession without productive impacts,' as the LA Galaxy couldn't put together many quality goal chances, although FC Dallas defense did a thorough job of caging up Giovani dos Santos for the most part of the game.
Santos goal in the 53rd minute came from a contentious penalty kick call and that propelled other Galaxy players in the field to get creative but unfortunately, they didn't and they suffered for their scoring impotence.
New faces makes MLS debuts
Several new players on both teams were handed their first game in the Major League Soccer, including new Galaxy designated player Roman Alessandrini, midfielder Joao Pedro and Dallas winger Roland Lamah. Of the bunch, Roman Alessandrini looked keenest despite wilting a bit in the second half while Roland Lamah delivered the winning assist.
