Kevin Durant has been out of action for the Golden State Warriors since suffering a sprained MCL and bruising his tibia bone in his left knee on Feb. 28. In the time that he has been away from the Warriors, the team has remained in first place in the Western Conference and now indicates that they could get Durant back before the NBA playoffs begin.
Kevin Durant's injury status
When Kevin Durant fell to injury, many thought it would hurt the Golden State Warriors. The fans had nothing to worry about. Last year, the Warriors had the best record in NBA history heading into the playoffs and they lost no superstars when they added Durant in the offseason.
If they could win in 2015-16, there was no reason to think Steph Curry and company couldn't hold on without Durant in the lineup for two months. There is word that the Warriors will have an official word on Kevin's status this upcoming week and head coach Steve Kerr believes that Durant will be back before the NBA playoffs to help lead Golden State to another title opportunity.
Golden State Warriors NBA playoff chances
The Golden State Warriors almost lost their hold on the top spot in the Western Conference when Kevin Durant fell to injury. While the Warriors have never been in danger of missing the 2016-17 NBA playoffs, they lost to the San Antonio Spurs and fell from the sole leader in the West.
However, they regained the spot at the top and became the first team to qualify for the NBA playoffs this season. They are still two games ahead of San Antonio with 10 games to go. They still play Houston twice and San Antonio once before the end of the regular season but have little to worry about. Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson all average over 20 points a game while Draymond Green averages 10.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.43 blocks a game as the defensive force. It is clear that the Golden State Warriors have the best lineup when it comes to the NBA playoffs this year and getting Kevin Durant back soon will make them the team to beat in the playoffs.
