It probably won't come as much of a surprise, but James King of "My 600-lb Life" is in ICU and nearing death. TLC's heaviest celebrity was not able to get Bariatric Surgery because he wouldn't control his eating. James' family fears for his life yet admits the 840-lb man cheats on his diet.
"Ow, my legs!" James King
Reality television viewers got to know James K. by his incessant whining. In one episode of "My 600-lb Life" he's heard yelling "ow! my legs!" at overworked caregivers. That's become his trademark and does it annoy fans. The show's fattest man clocked in a 790 pounds and shot to 840 pounds after he started the gastric bypass surgery program.
James repeatedly ignored Dr. Younan Nowzaradan's weight loss advice, made excuses and blew his 1,200 calorie a day diet. Next to Steven Assanti, James was the reality show's most disliked participant.
James King's spiral no surprise
Dr. Now treats a lot of morbidly obese patients and many like Amber Rachdi, Angelika Pacheco (Laura Perez) and Nikki Webster (Gray) succeed with amazing weight loss. But the good doc finally concluded that he couldn't help James because James would not help himself. "My 600-lb Life" fans hoped he'd change but aren't too shocked that he hasn't. And now James is dying. The young man has sepsis (a toxic, systemic infection) kidney failure, cirrhosis and mysterious uncontrollable swelling.
Girlfriend makes excuses
As per his Facebook page, The James K. Story (managed by girlfriend Lisa Raisor) a heart catheter was inserted. Doctors can't control fluid retention and she claims he has a lot of swelling and water weight gain. This is a common excuse which Dr. Now continually debunks. He says most weight gain is a result of less water, and more good old overeating.
A source close to James confirms that he bails on diet regularly, eating burgers and pizza.
Weight loss surgery GoFundMe fails
Lisa's fear for James is clear. But her understanding of James' obesity isn't. On the "My 600-lb Life" reality TV show, Dr. Now blamed Raisor for enabling King and making the daughter do likewise. Daughter Courtney even began a $50,000 GoFundMe to "help James K walk again." At first people gave, but then they saw his self-pity and his caregivers' codependency.
Donations trickled out with only $524 being raised in 29 months. Other fundraisers for James failed too.
Fans disappointed in James K
James King was one of the most disturbing celebrities on reality television's "My 600-lb Life." Most disturbing of all was the lack of responsibility. He and his caregivers believe that everyone but James should fix him. However no amount of money or care can make him stop eating. They can stop feeding him, though. As one commenter said,
"[The girlfriend] sees how much weight he is gaining, yet she keeps feeding enough food for 20 people. I'm sorry to say this, if he dies it's Lisa's fault. She fed him to death."
