The new "Guardians of the Galaxy" aired during "Jimmy Kimmel Live" tonight, gave us a closer look at the story behind the film. Star-Lord and gang are going to save the Galaxy one more time, but not before Peter finally learns about his past, namely his dad.

Plot details for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'

So far the plot isn't crystal clear. It will focus on Star-Lord aka Peter Quill, and we'll discover his lineage, but not many details are there. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) all return while newcomers Nebula, Yondu, and Mantis join the team.

The movie looks chalk full of gun-blasting action, tear-jerking humor, and lovable Baby Groot, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", sounds like the ideal film to kick off Marvel's 2017 cinematic lineup. There's a particular detail in this trailer that's new, a bearded Kurt Russell revealed to be Star-Lord's father.

Star-Lord's dad in the trailer

We get to see the father of the Guardians' defacto leader. "And who the hell are you?" Star-Lord utters in the new trailer. The man, Kurt Russell, steps forward and greets himself as the leader's father. The head of the group is speechless, while you don't see anyone else.

At the end of the first film, Peter Quill learns that he's only half human and his father belonged to an ancient species.

The end left an opening for the second film to reveal Peter's father and to explore more galactic territory in the cinematic universe.

The character in the comics, Ego, is a living planet and a character connected to Thor. There might be a connection between the space heroes and Thor, but who's to say the MCU won't change that?

Ego has an altered look from the comics, seeing as he appears as a male and he's, well, a planet in the comics.

This trailer for the film features Fleetwood Mac's "The Dream," following the 70s' music trend Marvel likes to incorporate. Check out "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" in theaters May 5.
