1. The Lie: In an interview with ABC, President Joe Biden said that Trump “is a guy who told us to put bleach in our arms to deal with COVID.”

The Truth: This claim is false and needs context to be better understood.

  • Several times at the beginning of the pandemic, President Donald Trump made false or not scientifically proven statements about COVID-19 and possible cure. During a press briefing, Donald Trump speculated about the possibility of injecting disinfectants to combat COVID-19, following a presentation on their effectiveness in killing the virus on surfaces.
  • Trump suggested exploring whether disinfectants could be injected into people's bodies, describing it as an "interesting" idea but emphasizing the need for medical professionals to assess it.

  • Trump's comments were widely condemned by health experts as highly dangerous, leading to urgent warnings against injecting or ingesting household disinfectants. Despite the backlash, Trump did not explicitly tell citizens to use such products, though his remarks caused significant confusion and concern.
