Today Senator Jeff flake (R-AZ) once again proved that he is one of a few Republican lawmakers who are putting country before party. One of the few who are speaking out against the new low moral and legal standards the majority of Republicans are now willing to accept to hold political power. His latest party outrage came as a Tweet in reply to a Tweet by Daniel Dale, Washington Correspondent for the Toronto Star. Dale's Tweet was connected to the allegations that Senate Candidate Roy Moore committed a sex crime against a 14-year-old girl several decades ago as reported in the Washington Post.
Come on, Republicans. Is this who we are? This cannot be who we are. https://t.co/Fp0xnwOdqz

Dale tweeted the response he got from Alabama Bibb County Republican chairman Jerry Pow when asked if he would vote for Senate candidate Roy Moore even if Moore did commit a sex crime against a young girl.
"I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn't want to vote for Doug," he says. "I'm not saying I support what he did. "
After a long pause, Alabama Bibb County Republican chairman Jerry Pow tells me he'd vote for Roy Moore even if Moore did commit a sex crime against a girl.

"I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn't want to vote for Doug," he says. "I'm not saying I support what he did."
That reply by Chairman Pow prompted Senator Flake to do more soul searching on behalf of his seemingly deaf party, “Come on, Republicans.
Is this who we are? This cannot be who we are.”
What do you expect in the Trump era?
One of the more than 6K comments to Flake’s Tweet by @TomWellborn which generally states a big “What do you expect?” sums it up for all who didn’t vote for or support Trump’s election for POTUS.
You guys backed a man who admitted to sexual assault; whose own daughter admitted to his sexual predation; who has been accused by at least 17 women of rape and/or sexual assault.

Donald Trump was elected POTUS despite the release of the Access Hollywood tapes in which he admitted to sexually assaulting women.
As Wellborn points out, he also made disturbing comments about how “perhaps” he would be dating Ivanka Trump if she wasn’t his daughter because “she has the best body.” Wellborn’s Tweet reminds us of the “at least 17 women,” who had accused then-candidate Trump of rape and/or sexual assault.
Still, the minority of American popular votes Trump secured were enough to give Trump his so-called “massive landslide victory” which in reality was more of a squeaker than he will ever admit.
His electoral college victory ranks 46th out of the 58 presidential elections we have had, well below both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
It just doesn’t matter anymore to most Republicans who will do anything, say anything, forget anything and ignore anything to stay in office or retain power. The same Republicans who denigrate Democratic patriotism and morality have proven their lack of patriotism by doing everything possible to sweep the Russia investigation under the rug, have ignored Trump’s so-called “untruths” which everybody else calls lies, and seem to only believe women who accuse Democrats of sexual misconduct.
Could this spell the end of the Republican Party as we knew it?
Senator Jeff Flake along with Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) has said enough is enough and both have accepted defeat, stating they will not run for re-election.
Had they sought re-election, both would have faced heavily contested primaries from the Bannon-Right for their disloyalty to Trump.
If Republican members of the Senate and the House who care enough about our country to stand up against Trump and Bannon all implode when faced with Bannon/Trump opposition, the United States legislature will soon be faced with a make-up of radically Far-Right “Republicans” like Roy Moore, or just maybe, the Democrats who defeated them.
