Hillary Clinton’s book of excuses, her campaign memoirs entitled “What Happened” is now out and the rubes are lining up around the block to get their copies signed and to bend the knee, as it were. The sharp eyed folks at ”Reason” have noticed that Clinton (or perhaps one of her ghost writers) has chosen to identify with a famous character from “Game of Thrones.” The identity of this person has jaws dropping and palms smacking faces across the world.
‘When you play the Game of Thrones’ you win or you die
The money quote out of the book goes thus: “They shouted, 'Guilty!
Guilty!' like the religious zealots in Game of Thrones chanting 'Shame! Shame!' while Cersei Lannister walked back to the Red Keep." In that one sentence, Clinton demonstrates literary and political cluelessness and yet unintentional self-awareness. Of course, Hillary Clinton identifies with the psychotic megalomaniac who seeks power for its own sake and doesn’t care who she kills or ruins to get it, paranoid of everything and everybody, perpetually angry at the universe. Cersei was even married to a fat libertine whom she secretly despised. One particular difference exists between Clinton and Cersei, but we shall leave that as an exercise for the reader.
Pro tip: always identify with the hero in a famous book, movie, or TV show
Clinton has done the equivalent of a male political candidate musing, “I had tragedy in my life, having lost my wife at an early age and been estranged from my children, sort of like that heavy breathing guy in “Star Wars.” Identifying with the villain is just not done, even ironically.
In a way, in chewing over her list of excuses for why she lost, Hillary Clinton also seems to identify with Arya, who has a list that she keeps muttering to herself. With Clinton, it would be, “Donald, Vlad, Bernie, James, Barack, Bill—“ The difference is that she knows she is not allowed to kill people, conspiracy theories notwithstanding.
Of course, anyone with even a passing familiarity with “Game of Thrones” knows which character Clinton should have identified with. The person in question is the blond lady who is the mother of dragons, the breaker of chains, and so on. Daenerys believes that she is entitled to the Iron Throne by right and blood. However, she also wants to do right by the ordinary people. She is playing the game so that in the end the game will stop. Unfortunately, a number of differences exist between Ms. Clinton and the Unburnt One. The gentle reader knows of what we speak.
