The disappearance of an Alabama teenager, on vacation in Aruba, gained international coverage and round the clock media attention. Despite all the eyes and all the people involved, there has never been any closure for her family and no vicious killer brought to justice. There have been incredible rumors and outrageous conspiracy theories that have swirled around about this case. After 12 years of not knowing, Dave Holloway, Natalee's father, has possibly solved the mystery of what happened to Natalee.

Natalee Holloway disappeared without a trace

Natalee Holloway, an 18 year old Alabama high school graduate, was on vacation with friends in the Dutch territory of Aruba in May 2005.

The group of friends was celebrating their recent graduation and the journey that they were beginning. On that vacation, Natalee disappeared, without a trace, from in front of a popular restaurant frequented by tourists. She was last seen with Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch national, who later became the prime suspect but was never charged in the crime.

In 2010, in a suspicious turn of events, van der Sloot was charged and convicted in the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, a Peruvian business student. Van der Sloot was, subsequently, sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder. This definitely raises some eyebrows, to say the least.

New evidence emerges

Recently, Natalee's father, Dave Holloway, appeared on NBC's The Today Show to reveal the new progress that has been made in the case.

He goes on to discuss the details of the information. He reveals that human remains were discovered, at an undisclosed location, based on the information offered by an informant he referred to as "Gabriel". This being the culmination of an 18 month long investigation.

The informant, allegedly, was directly involved with the disposal of Natalee's body along with van der Sloot.

The informant claims that Natalee died after aspirating on her own vomit. He alleges that she was drugged with GHB, also known as the date rape drug.

A family searching for closure

It has been 12 years since Natalee's disappearance. Her parents know their child has been murdered but the need to know will drive a parent crazy.

He tells Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie "I know there's a possibility this could be someone else, and I'm just trying to wait and see."

A DNA sample from the discovered remains have been sent out for identification. Now, all that is left for the family to do is wait.
