Somebody had to bell the cat. Donald Trump has done it. He authorized the use of the biggest bomb in the US military arsenal, next to a nuclear bomb, also called the MOAB (mother of all bombs). The bomb was dropped in afghanistan. The bomb which weighs more than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, marks a new escalation in the battle against Radical Islamic fighters. The bomb reportedly killed 36 ISIS fighters. This looks a small number but the damage to the terrorist morale would be much more. So far they were treated with kid gloves by the Obama regime.

Donald Trump is a man with a mission and he is keen to keep his word of destroying the ISIS.

The bomb

The bomb was developed in 2003 during the Iraq invasion. This weapon has never been used. This is the first time this gigantic bomb has been used in actual combat. The bomb was dropped over the areas which are home to the Daesh and their ilk in the Eastern mountains. This was like a sanctuary of ISIS and the fighters spread out from this place to the rest of Afghanistan. The military authority is the US Central command which authorized the use of this weapon. The bombing will be a shot in the arm for the government of Ashraf Ghani. He was getting increasingly boxed in by the Taliban and ISIS fighters.

The bomb is also a warning to Pakistan which had been all along supporting the Haqqani faction of the Taliban against the government in Kabul.

The bomb which was dropped is officially called GPU 43 or massive ordnance air blast bomb.

It weighs more than 21,000 lbs and is the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used. The bomb was dropped on the cave complex used by the Islamic state of Iraq and Syria and had an explosive force equal to 11 tons of TNT. The bomb reportedly set off severe pressure lines that blocked the caves in which the Islamic fighters took refuge.

The Bomb most likely would have blocked most of the caves in the region.

The future

General John Nicholson, the US commander in Afghanistan has said there is now no requirement for Afghan Troops and American advisors to go into the area to clear the caves. Reports indicate that authority to use the bomb had been delegated to general Nicholson The president has hailed the attack as another very very successful mission". All do not seem to be happy with the dropping of the bomb. Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai has expressed his anger at the strike and says that he is permanently opposed to the US action. There are reports that many Indian volunteers from the Indian state of Kerala who were fighting along with ISIS have also been killed.

The bombing shows the resolve of the US President, Donald Trump to confront ISIS. It remains to be seen how successful the strike is and what effect it will have on the coming battles between the Afghan government troops and its opponents
