"Tomb Raider" is one of the most outstanding and well-known franchises in the gaming industry. It is a stellar game franchise that brought with it the perfect mix of grit and adventure. Not only that, but the games in the series have always had intense campaigns filled with hours of gameplay and a myriad of side missions.

After all the rumors, it is good to know it's finally official, as Lara Croft is back for another adventure and the game will be arriving later this year. The character is forever trying to outdo her father, and yet, continues his legacy of treasure hunting and exploring treacherous ruins.

The next game

The next edition in this treasure hunter roleplayer is set to be released later this year, according to Square Enix. According to Chaim Gartenberg of The Verge, the game is "the third game in the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise that began in 2013 -- for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, set to release on September 14."

A teaser trailer has been released with some insight into what the game will be like. The sneak peek is very short with a length of about 23 seconds, showing off snapshots and revolving action sequences with dramatic music playing in the background. The trailer shows the usual with Croft running through jungles, climbing mountains, and looking at breathtaking pyramids.

It looks like "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" will take place after the prior installment "Rise of the Tomb Raider" which was a great game that was successful just like many of the other entries. There is no guarantee that the new game will follow the same formula of raiding tombs, taking out goons, and exploring new places.

However, this game will be developed by Eidos Montreal.

The past two games were developed by Crystal Dynamics. Despite the trailer not showing off much in respect to the upcoming game, it lists that a full reveal will be coming on April 27. E3 is close, so more of the game could certainly be shown at the event.

'Tomb Raider' film

Subsequently, there is a movie out based on the popular "Tomb Raider" franchise.

Reviews of the film so far have been favorable overall. From the look of the trailers, actress Alicia Vikander (portraying Lara Croft) looks the part, and the film looks to continue the success of the game, with action sequences and danger lurking around. It will be interesting to see how the film does in terms of launching another successful film franchise going forward.
