"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" was one of the biggest games of 2016 and was a massive hit with both gamers and critics alike for its beautiful graphics, intense gameplay, swashbuckling plot, and fun online multiplayer. As a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it was a serious system seller for Sony and showed off the power of the company's console. The game was intended to be the last major game in the series from developer Naughty Dog but it seems that may not be the case.
Uncharted's future
Whilst Naughty Dog has previously stated it doesn't intend to release any more Uncharted games, the studio also seems to have not ruled it out.
In a recent interview, Naughty Dog's Shawn Escayg stated that the studio is looking at what projects it could start working on, and that could include a new "Uncharted", among other things.
Fresh ideas
Escayg recently explained in an interview that Naughty Dog is currently looking at new ideas to see what intrigues. "Yes, it’s pretty exciting. We don’t know what the future holds," he said. "But you’re right, it could be something new. It could be another "Uncharted", who knows. Naughty Dog is not afraid of exploring more stuff." The games featured a large world full of adventure, so it's certainly possible that Naughty Dog will go back to the series, but it could well begin a brand new project or a sequel to one of its other games such as The Last of Us: Part II.
The Lost Legacy
Later this month, what may be the final "Uncharted" game will be released in the form of "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy". This stand-alone DLC sees players step into the boots of the character Chloe Frazer as she partners up with the antagonist of Uncharted 4, Nadine Ross, to uncover a lost treasure in India. It will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and is set to be released digitally on August 22.
Players won't need a copy of "Uncharted 4" to play the DLC as it will serve as its own game.
Farewell, Nathan Drake
The character Nathan Drake may have been the popular star of the four "Uncharted" games but his story was pretty well wrapped up in "A Thief's End". If Naughty Dog does explore the world it has built further then it may well feature a new cast of characters to the series.
Of course, nothing official has been announced yet so it's anyone's guess as to whether we'll see a new entry in the series, no doubt there are many gamers out there who would be eager to go on another adventure with the folks over at Naughty Dog.
