Week 2 was a rather crazy one due to the number of injuries that occurred throughout the league. Key players such as Saquon Barkley and Courtland Sutton suffered season-ending injuries, which in turn broke the hearts of their fantasy football owners.

As we will do after each week’s set of games, let’s take a look at the players who performed well despite mostly being unowned in fantasy football. In order to be eligible, the player must have been owned in less than 25 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues. Each week, one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, and one tight end will be highlighted.

1

QB - Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dolphins (328 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 12 rushing yards)

After a miserable Week 1, where he threw three interceptions, Fitzpatrick bounced back with a solid performance against a strong Bills defense. Only twice in his 15 starts last year did he finish with at least 300 yards passing and multiple passing scores.

2

RB - Dion Lewis, Giants (20 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 4 receptions, 36 receiving yards)

With the terrible news that Saquon Barkley tore his ACL on Tuesday, Lewis’ workload will substantially change as he is likely to be the Giants’ lead back. According to the New York Post, New York brought in two-time Pro Bowl running back Devonta Freeman in for a workout.

3

RB - Mike Davis, Panthers (1 rushing yard, 8 receptions, 74 receiving yards)

Christian McCaffrey went down with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him out for multiple weeks, so much like Dion Lewis, Davis is expected to get the brunt of the running back works for Carolina in the meantime. While he received just one carry on Sunday, Teddy Bridgewater often looked his way as the Panthers were trailing late against the Buccaneers.

4

WR - Braxton Berrios, Jets (6 receptions, 59 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown)

A second-year player, Berrios was thrust into a larger role with Jamison Crowder forced to sit out of Sunday’s game with an injury. He scored his first professional touchdown late in the fourth quarter with the Jets trailing the 49ers by a wide margin.

5

WR - Chase Claypool, Steelers (3 receptions, 88 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown)

Selected in the second round of Notre Dame in 2020, Claypool scored his first NFL touchdown in the second quarter Sunday with an 84-yard catch and run. That is currently the longest reception of the 2020 season.

6

TE - Jordan Reed, 49ers (7 receptions, 50 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns)

Formerly one of the top fantasy tight ends, Reed has gone through countless injury problems which have taken him off the radar. George Kittle missed Week 2’s game with an injury, and Reed put up a vintage performance with his first multiple touchdown game since October 23, 2017.
