You hear about it all the time in sports; how a player is putting together their best season at an opportune time because their contract is set to expire once the season is over.
These 10 NBA players are putting together their best statistical season in advance of becoming a free agent in a few month’s time.
Davis Bertans - Wizards
Traded by the Spurs in the offseason after they thought they signed Marcus Morris (he ended up changing his mind), Bertans has excelled in his first season with the Wizards. He nearly doubled his previous career-best in scoring as he is averaging 15.3 points per contest.

Alec Burks - Warriors/76ers
Thrust into a much larger role on an injury-laden Warriors team (now on the 76ers after a trade deadline deal), Burks’ 15.2 points per game are a career-high as are his averages of 4.4 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 89.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Brandon Ingram - Pelicans (RFA)
An All-Star this season, Ingram has begun to show why he was selected second overall in 2016 with career-highs across the board averaging 24.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.7 blocks. He’s also improved immensely from the charity stripe (86.2%). According to Bleacher Report, execs believe he will receive max offer sheets as a restricted free agent.
“I have heard people call me ‘Durag B.I.’ a couple of times during the games and during practice. It might be my signature thing."

Marcus Morris - Knicks/Clippers
While his overall numbers have dipped since leaving the Knicks for the much more talent-laden Clippers, his total stats include career-bests in scoring (17.8) and three-point percentage (41.7).
Joakim Noah, Marcus Morris, Pat Bev, Kawhi...Clippers gonna lead the league in furrowed brows by a WIDE margin

Shabazz Napier - Timberwolves/Wizards
Entering the season with just 24 career starts, Napier has started 28 games in 2019-20 for the Timberwolves and Wizards posting career-bests in scoring (9.8), rebounding (2.9), assists (4.9), and steals (1.2).
I really hope the Wiz find a way to keep Shabazz Napier this summer. Wish they didn't have that $6M committed to Ish Smith already.

Glenn Robinson III - Warriors/76ers

Fred VanVleet - Raptors
Now a full-time starter, VanVleet has become quite the impact player on a Toronto team currently residing in second place in the East with career-high averages of 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.9 steals. Tommy Beer of Forbes recently considered VanVleet to be the best point guard to hit free agency in the upcoming offseason.
Fred VanVleet could return from a shoulder injury for the @Raptors as soon as Sunday.

After a hurried return from a similar injury two years ago, he knows the importance of taking proper rest this time around.
