Every week, we'll take a look at players who performed very well in fantasy but weren’t owned in the majority of leagues. One quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, and one tight end will be highlighted after each week’s set of games.
In order to be eligible for the list, the player must have been owned in less than 25 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues. Here are your Week 1 fantasy football stars who were mostly unowned.
Quarterback - Matthew Stafford, Lions (385 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 22 rushing yards, 1 fumble lost)
Last season, Stafford had his lowest passing yards total since 2011 and lowest passing touchdown total since 2012. His 385 yards are more than he threw for in any game in 2018, and he had just one game last year with three passing touchdowns.
#Lions QB Matthew Stafford produced his 19th career game with 300+ passing yds. & 3 TDs, tied for the 13th-most in NFL history.#OnePride

Running back - Malcolm Brown, Rams (53 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns)
While it was expected that Todd Gurley would receive fewer touches this season, nobody could have expected Brown to have both of the Rams’ scores on the ground. Brown had just one career rushing touchdown entering the game in his first four seasons.

Running back - Chris Thompson, Redskins (10 rushing yards, 7 receptions, 68 receiving yards)
Even with Derrius Guice back in the fold, Thompson still looms large as a receiver out of the backfield. While he received just three carries, he had a very useful performance for those in PPR leagues.
Yesterday Chris Thompson scored 14.8 PPR points.

The last 3 years he's averaged 12.7 PPR FP/G.
We should probably just start him in PPR for as long as he's active.
Wide receiver - John Ross III, Bengals (7 receptions, 158 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns)
Finally, the Bengals were able to see production from Ross III which was expected of him when he was taken ninth overall in 2017. He easily surpassed his previous career-highs of three receptions and 52 receiving yards.

Wide receiver - Phillip Dorsett, Patriots (4 receptions, 95 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns)
With Antonio Brown ineligible to play in Week 1 and Demaryius Thomas out with an injury, Dorsett stepped up in a major way in the Patriots blowout victory over the Steelers. It was the first multi-touchdown game in Dorsett’s five-year career.

Tight end - Vernon Davis, Redskins (4 receptions, 59 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown)
Davis was thrust into a larger role with Jordan Reed once again being forced to miss game action. According to NBC Sports, his touchdown catch was the 63rd of his career, which put him ahead of Shannon Sharpe for the sixth-most ever by a tight end.
Vernon Davis’ grandfather passed away yesterday. The veteran TE broke down in tears after his epic touchdown to begin the game.
