While the decade isn’t quite over with a little more than a month remaining in the 2019 season, it is safe to say that nothing will change from the All-2010s Miami Marlins team.
While the team is now in a rebuild, there are two current players who made the franchise’s All-Decade team (2010-19). Years with the team are listed in the heading and remember that the team was known as the Florida Marlins in 2010 and 2011.
Catcher - J.T. Realmuto (2014-18)
It was a career-year for Realmuto in 2018 as he was named to his first All-Star Game and won his first Silver Slugger (also threw out 38 percent of would-be base-stealers).
First base - Justin Bour (2014-18)
Bour’s most productive seasons came from 2015-17 when he combined to hit for a .272 batting average with 63 home runs and 207 RBIs.
Second base - Dee Gordon (2015-17)
In 2015, Gordon became the second-ever Marlins player to win an NL batting crown (batted .333). It was also a year he won a Silver Slugger as well as a Gold Glove, and he led the NL in stolen bases (also led in 2017).
Third base - Brian Anderson (2017-19)
Anderson has only appeared slightly more at third base than right field, but there wasn’t much competition at the position for the 2010s. He finished fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2018, but according to ESPN, he is likely out for the remainder of this year with a broken finger.
Shortstop - Miguel Rojas (2015-19)
Originally, I went with Hanley Ramirez, but he only had one good season (2010) in the 2010s with the Marlins. Rojas has provided excellent defense while playing a solid .271 batting average in his Miami tenure. He is on the 10-day IL currently with a hamstring injury, but according to CBS Sports, he began a rehab assignment on Friday.
Left field - Christian Yelich (2013-17)
While with the Marlins, Yelich won a Gold Glove in 2014 and a Silver Slugger in 2016. In his time with the team, he hit .290 with 59 home runs, 146 doubles, and 72 stolen bases.
Center field - Marcell Ozuna (2013-17)
An All-Star in 2016 and 2017, Ozuna’s best year came in 2017 when he won a Silver Slugger and Gold Glove, connected on 37 homers, drove in 124 runs, and batted .312.
Right field - Giancarlo Stanton (2010-17)
It was a magical season in 2017 for Stanton as he became the first Marlins player to ever be named NL MVP. He set team single-season records that year in homers (59), RBIs (132), total bases (377), and slugging percentage (.631).
Starting pitcher - Jose Fernandez (2013-16)
Before Fernandez’s untimely passing in September of 2016, he was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. The 2013 NL Rookie of the Year had a career 38-17 record with a 2.58 ERA and 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings in 76 starts.
Closer - Steve Cishek (2010-15)
This was a close one as AJ Ramos narrowly lost out to Cishek. From 2012-14, Cishek combined for 88 saves, a 2.72 ERA, and 226 strikeouts in 198.2 innings.
